Courses Description:

These practical courses are intended for university students (English for historical purposes). The courses aim to develop students' linguistic proficiency by providing practice in translating and interpreting a variety of historical text from English into Arabic.

Students will be given opportunities to reflect on, discuss and engage in translation tasks which are all geared up toward full understanding of historical texts, and its linguistic issues at different textual and discourse levels.

Courses Key Objectives:

  •  To practice translating and interpreting texts into Arabic and English.
  •  To develop translation and interpreting skills used in translating a variety of Arabic and English texts.
  •  To develop students’ ability inferring meaning of new vocabulary from the surrounding context.
  • To contribute increasing the students’ vocabulary and consolidating the grammatical rules in their minds.
  • To empower students to handle translation problems by comparing the different lexical and idiomatic uses of two different languages.
  • To compare and contrast Arabic and English constructions on grammatical principles.
  •  To formulate in Arabic and English constructions and paying special attention to grammaticality and idiomaticity in each language.
  • To train students producing cohesive and coherent texts.
  • To provide students with knowledge about using computer in translation and information on computer software and tools which aid in translation process.
  •  To raise students’ level of awareness about the different issues, problems and difficulties that may face them.
