This module, English Language, is designed for second-year undergraduate students in General History. It aims to strengthen students’ ability to read, understand, and use academic texts in English, which is essential for historical research and scholarly work.

Throughout the semester, students engage with a selection of texts covering major historical themes such as the civilizations of the ancient Maghreb, the Islamic East, the Abbasid Caliphate, the Rustamid State, the Songhai Kingdom, and key European periods including the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. The course also introduces texts on theological movements, regional histories, Algerian cultural heritage, and urban development, alongside methodological and geographical terminology.

The module focuses on developing core skills such as reading comprehension, translation (Arabic–English and English–Arabic), summarizing, and the use of specialized historical vocabulary. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to work with English-language sources more confidently and to integrate them effectively into their academic research.
